We will promote the event and publish an electronic map that highlights all the participating yard sale locations. All you need to do is sign up! Sign up is by donation; suggested $10/household.

Petition for Permanently Safer Crosswalks - Sign Now!
We are collecting signatures to petition the City of Portland to make our temporary traffic calming installations permanent. Sign on to join the Friends of Woodford's Corner in asking members of the City Council to prioritize pedestrian and bike safety by funding the permanent installation of our traffic calming measures in the Capital Improvement Plan (CIP).

Volunteers Needed: Woodfords Corner Farmers Market
Help us set up and break down the farmers market! There are two different volunteer shifts: 2:30 to 3:30 pm, or 6:15 to 7:15 pm. You can sign up for one or more dates. It's a small commitment and a big help!

Corner Cash for Seniors, Veterans, Kids, and College Students EVERY WEEK at Farmers Market
Starting August 1, Corner Cash will be available to seniors, veterans, kids, AND college students every week at the Woodfords Corner Farmers Market! To claim you Corner Cash, just stop by the market booth! These vouchers will be redeemable at any WCFM vendor throughout the market season. We are grateful to a generous neighbor for making this possible!

Rubbish! Community Clean-up

Saturday, August 3, 9 - 11 pm
Join Rubbish at Coveside for a family-friendly community clean up day! They'll provide the coffee and the trash pickers and buckets. Help clean up the neighborhood! Participants will also be entered into a raffle with great prizes from local businesses.

Pocket Neighborhood Block Party

Sunday, August 4, 4 - 6 pm
Bring your family, something to grill or a prepared dish, a beverage, and join the Pocket neighborhood block party! There will be kids face painting and yard games, bubbles and sidewalk chalk. Donation based to cover the cost of the annual permit, flyer printing, plates and cutlery, etc. You don't have to live in the Pocket neighborhood to join, anyone in the surrounding neighborhoods are welcome!

This intergenerational class helps youth and adult participants gain greater understanding of their different perspectives, strengths, and challenges, and build relationships. From setting limits with peers and learning to express clearly what you do or do not want, to recognizing and addressing manipulation, this course will help you stand by your positions and gain confidence in your abilities.

Welcome Sissle & Daughters to the Neighborhood - Help Meet Their Fundraising Goal!
Earlier this summer, Mary Chapman and Will Sissle, owners of the Cheese Shop, announced that they are opening a second market in the old Merlin Motors building on Forest Ave! To get to the finish line, Mary and Will need help from the community! They are launching a NuMarket campaign to ensure they have sufficient funds to open. With NuMarket, community members can make contributions, and in return, they will receive 120% of that contribution back in credits to be used to shop at either the new or original location.

Grad Assistant Capstone: Farmers Markets for Revitalization
This Spring, our former graduate assistant Katie Knowles completed her time with Friends of Woodfords Corner and completed her master’s degree in Policy, Planning, and Management from the University of Southern Maine. Her capstone project, “Farmers Markets as a Tool for Downtown Revitalization and Economic Development: A Case Study in Woodfords Corner,” tells the story of the Woodfords Corner Farmers Market.

Elemental Work Sponsors New Bike Rack
Thank you to our friend Laura at Elemental Work for sponsoring the purchase of this new bike rack. The rack has been installed on Forest Ave, just outside of the the building where the Proper Cup and Elemental Work are located! This project is a collaboration with FWC and the City of Portland; we secure the funding for the racks and the city installs them at locations that are suggested by the community.

A Decade of Railroad Cleanups - Thank You Neighbors
Each year since 2015, we've led a group of volunteers to clean up the trash along the railroad tracks in our district. Rick Fowler, railroad detective for our area, goes out of his way to help us make this happen. Thank you to Rick, the CSX Railroad, and our intrepid volunteers this year - Jenna, Jess, Josh, Betsy, and Teresa. This yearly event is an example of citizen, corporate, and municipal collaboration to make our neighborhood a lovely place to live, work, and visit.

We Need Your Help: Take the Revitalization Roadmap Survey
Friends of Woodfords Corner was recently selected by the Maine Downtown Center to receive a streamlined 7-10 week Revitalization Roadmap planning exercise. As a final product, a report will be created with recommendations that can be implemented with available community resources including capacity, character, built environment, real estate development, and streetscape. As a part of this process, we need public input!
