Breaking Ground on Shalom Community Park
On August 21st, the Shalom Park Community Committee broke ground at the junction of Deering Ave and Devonshire St, the site that is set to become Shalom Community Park. Slated to open this November, the park has been a Temple Beth El and Levey Day School dream in progress over the last two years.
The committee envisions Shalom Community Park as “a vibrant green space designed for gathering, learning, reflection, and play for people of all ages and abilities…a communal meeting point where cultural bridges are built, new friendships can form, and diverse groups will feel at home for generations to come.”
The park, which will be located next to the Susan T. Goldberg Courtyard, includes features such as the Goldman Family Playground and nearby seating, three beautiful gardens, an open lawn, and a patio with tables. Shalom Community Park is designed for semi-public use, similar to how public school playgrounds are used.
“Woodfords Corner neighborhoods have all the components of a complete neighborhood - except we need more open public green spaces for gathering, playing, mingling tarrying - for getting to know each other,” says FWC president Teresa Valliere. “It’s in these open spaces that neighborhoods are made…Thank you to Temple Beth El and Levey Day School for sharing this space with the community.
Now in the final stretch, the Shalom Community Park Committee needs community support to finish the park this fall. Learn more about how you can help here!
