FWC launches partnership with Haknuman Meachey Grocery and CCAM
Friends of Woodfords and the Marpheen Chan and Chan Himm of Cambodian Community Association of Maine are pitching in to aid long time neighborhood grocery Haknuman Meanchey refresh their storefront on Forest Avenue. Co-owners Bunrith Pok and Mealy Khiev opened the market in 2003 (pictured center) in a nice piece posted in 2010 on the site Immigrant Kitchen. Haknuman is a busy store that sells a variety of fresh and preserved foods for the Asian community. In addition to refresh the front of their store the group will look at design of interior space and other ways to increase comfort of customers in the time of Covid. FWC and CCAM will connect the owners with a local architect and help locate resources for the project. If you’ve not visited Haknuman, stop by and get to know the growing family and friends who are a hub of Cambodian culture in Portland.
