together we are

Friends of Woodfords and Marpheen Chan and Chan Himm of Cambodian Community Association of Maine are pitching in to aid long time neighborhood grocery Haknuman Meanchey refresh their storefront on Forest Avenue. Co-owners Bunrith Pok and Mealy Khiev opened the market in 2003. Check out this nice piece posted in 2010 on the site Immigrant Kitchen about their market.

Haknuman is a busy store that sells a variety of fresh and preserved foods for the Asian community. In addition to refreshing the front of their store the group will look at the design of interior space and other ways to increase comfort of customers in the time of COVID. FWC and CCAM will connect the owners with a local architect to aid with design, and help locate resources for the project. If you’ve not visited Haknuman, stop by and get to know the growing family and friends who are a hub of Cambodian culture in Portland!

FWC News

Welcome New Board Member Kirk Jones!

Kirk Jones joined the Friends of Woodfords Corner Board in August. Kirk sees a great opportunity for the residents and businesses in this area to define Woodfords Corner and will not settle for anything less! Working full time in sales, marketing, and social media, he looks forward to contributing his skills and expertise to FWC's work. Born and raised in Maine, Kirk and his wife work and live, with their 19-month-old daughter, in Portland. In his spare time he enjoys going on adventures with my family and creating tasty cocktails at home. Welcome, Kirk! We're delighted to have you on the team.

Thank you, Kate O'Brien!

Thank you to former board member Kate O'Brien for her service to FWC over the past years. We are grateful for her contributions of time, skills, and nonprofit know-how! Woodfords Corner is lucky to have residents like Kate who are passionate about their community, and we're all lucky to have her as a neighbor!
