Join the FWC Board of Directors!

The Friends of Woodfords Corner seeks volunteers to join its board of directors. In particular, we seek individuals who have the following background, knowledge or skills to broaden our collective talents: small business experience, community organizing/social justice, fundraising, economic development, marketing and public relations, and communications and writing.

Position Title: Volunteer Board Member, Friends of Woodfords Corner

About the Organization: Friends of Woodfords Corner (FWC) works to revitalize Woodfords Corner in Portland, Maine, by promoting it as a vibrant village hub, supporting our businesses, and encouraging community involvement in our neighborhood. As a Main Street Affiliate, our work is oriented around the national organization’s four points for community transformation: economic vitality, design, organization, and promotion. 

As a nonprofit organization, we rely on our growing network of volunteers to serve on committees. Learn about our committees and the work they do at wc.org/volunteer.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Contribute your skills and time to FWC’s work and goal achievement.

    • Be actively involved in at least one FWC committee.

    • Volunteer at FWC major events.

  • Positively promote and represent FWC and Woodfords Corner through interactions in the community. 

    • Communicate the work and values of the organization to the community.

    • Communicate community feedback and input to the board of directors.

    • Invite your neighbors and friends to participate in FWC events and initiatives.

  • Be a present, respectful, and informed participant in board meetings and organizational affairs.

    • Be an active participant in board meetings (approx. monthly).

    • Be responsive to board business between meetings.

  • Support the financial health of the organization.

    • Engage your broader network to encourage them to support FWC’s work.

    • Donate funds and resources.

Time Commitment: We expect board members to dedicate a minimum of 10 hours per month to their board volunteerism. This would include board meetings, committee meetings, events, staying informed of organization news and business, and accomplishing assigned tasks.
