Saturday, Oct. 9: Blessing of the Animals
10 am – 1 pm
Woodfords Church, 202 Woodford St.
Pets and their humans are invited to come in-person (or bring a picture of your pet) to receive the blessing in front of the church. Non-aggressive pets of all species will be welcomed, as long as they are contained and controlled.
During the event, organizers will be collecting donations for the Midcoast Humane Society. Needed donations include: unscented bleach, litter, wet and dry pet food, leashes, and collars. LEARN MORE

Area neighborhood associations and organizations are hosting a virtual forum to help residents get to know the candidates. Here's your opportunity to hear from all of the At-Large City Council and School Board candidates in advance of the November 2 Election.

12:30 – 3:30 pm - Portland Yoga Project, 449 Forest Ave.
Come together for an afternoon of learning, sharing, and exploring the ways we can all take up more space in the world by expressing what we want, need, and feel and intervening early to prevent and respond to harassment, abuse and assault. Gain awareness, verbal and physical response skills, and tools for adrenalin management and healing. This training is highly accessible and adaptable to all. Enjoy a family-friendly presentation of Halloween-inspired ballet by students from the Portland School of Ballet! Halloween-themed dances are combined with famous classical music for a performance that is ideal for all ages. This event will include a raffle drawing and costume parade at intermission, so come dressed in your Halloween costume!

FWC's Nancy Grant Honored with UNE Deborah Morton Award
FWC Board Member and Active Transportation Committee Chair Nancy Grant has received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the University of New England's Deborah Morton Society. The award recognizes Maine women distinguished by their careers and public service, or whose leadership in civic, cultural, or social causes has been exceptional. We know that Nancy's leadership and contributions to make Maine safer for biking and walking are truly exceptional and deserve to be celebrated far and wide. We are grateful for her dedication to making Woodfords Corner a more accessible neighborhood hub. Join all of us at FWC in sending a huge congratulations to our very own Nancy Grant! Munjoy Hill Neighborhood Association Tax Revaluation Panel

Toy Len Goon Commemorative Plaque Installed
The 1952 Maine Mother of the Year hailed from our very own Woodfords Corner, and earlier this month a commemorative plaque was installed at 615 Forest Avenue to honor Toy Len Goon. A widowed mother of 8, she ran a laundry in Portland and raised her children single-handedly.
