Spring and Summer Volunteer Opportunities with FWC
We’re actively recruiting volunteers for this spring and summer! Volunteers will be provided with tshirts!
- Deering Ave Crosswalk Mural re-Painting (Monday 5/1) — 5 - 9 pm, it’s kinda like a block party with lots of paint!
- Watering the Deering Ave Planters (starting 5/19) — 2-3 “shifts” a week, watering takes about 30 minutes and can be done any time of day.
- Woodfords Corner Farmers Market (starting 6/1) — help us set-up, break-down, and run the market; shifts from 2-5 pm and 5-8 pm; Thursdays
- 3rd Annual Garden Tour (Saturday 6/10) — help with set-up, break-down, checking-in on Gardeners, and more! A volunteer interest meeting will be held on Thursday May 4th at 6:30 pm
Are you a Garbage to Garden customer? Volunteer hours at the Farmers Market can be submitted to GTG for a free month of curbside service!

We're hiring: Part-Time Administrative Coordinator
FWC seeks a skilled communicator and detail-oriented administrator to serve as the organization’s Administrative Coordinator. The Administrative Coordinator works closely with a very hands-on board of directors, volunteer committees, and graduate assistants in support of the organization’s economic vitality, design, promotion, and organization initiatives.
The Administrative Coordinator is an up-to-10-hours/week contracted position, and is responsible for all administrative operations for the organization, maintaining FWC’s website and digital communications channels, and carrying out work that supports FWC initiatives and events. The ideal candidate will have a passion for community building, teamwork, and working with volunteers; be well-versed in contemporary office digital tools; and have a can-do attitude and good sense of humor. As FWC continues to grow, the Administrative Coordinator will have opportunities to expand their role and hours. Office Sublease Available!
FWC is seeking a profession to sublet our furnished office space on Monday weekly. We’re located on the second floor of the Odd Fellows Building, directly above the Back Cove Books and the front entrance to building and overlooking the plaza. Our bright sunny office includes utilities, WiFi, refrigerator, coffee pot, tea kettle, microwave, whiteboard, computer desk, seating for 10 people and a 6 foot table. There is chair lift to second floor and rest rooms.

Stations in the Streets @ Trinity Church
580 Forest Avenue— Saturday, April 1st 7 - 8:30 pm
Trinity Church, Portland invites the community to mark Good Friday by walking the Stations of the Cross (the final hours of Jesus life) by walking the streets of Woodfords Corner and reflecting on how we can see moments of Jesus' passion in our neighborhood right here and right now. We will gather at Trinity at noon and then walk through the traditional 14 Stations of the Cross passing throughout the neighborhood, pausing the pray, reflect and grow. All are welcome.

Easter Festival Worship and Community Easter Egg Hunt @ Woodfords Congregational Church
202 Woodford Street— Sunday, April 9th 10 am - 12 pm
Woodfords Congregational Church cordially invites everyone to its 10am Easter Festival Worship Service, which will feature brass, organ, and choir. After worship (sometime around 11:15am or so), we are hosting a community Easter Egg Hunt that is open to all children who would like to participate; worship attendance is not a prerequisite. Join us for this morning of hope and uplift, with no pressure or proselytizing involved. Woodfords is an open and affirming congregation, and we're glad to be your neighbor!
Woodfords Church will also be holding an Easter Sunrise Service at Fort Preble Bunker in South Portland.

Neighborhood Litter Cleanup 2.0
Meet at Dunkin Donuts— Saturday, April 15th,
9 am - 12 pm
After a successful first neighborhood cleanup organized by our neighbor, Amy Liston, there will be a second cleanup held this month!
The second round of litter blasting for Woodfords area. Meet at Dunkin Forest/Deering Ave to pick up bags and gloves at 9:00-9:15 am. Focus in Woodfords Corner to put a dent in the detritus! We will designate full-bag drop off sites for city DPW to pick up. Come have some coffee, maybe buy a "Litter Blows" tee. See you there! Questions: alavinliston@gmail.com

Tour of the Historic Odd Fellows Building
651 Forest Ave — Saturday, April 15th, 10 am - 1 pm
The Odd Fellow of Woodfords Corner would like to invite all to a free tour of our building. The Odd Fellows block has been continuously occupied by it's members since the buildings completion in1897. Included on the tour will be the banquet hall, meeting room, anterooms, kitchen, and the recreation room. Many of these rooms have a great view of the corner.
The tour is free and no reservation needed. Just enter at the corner and proceed up the stairs to the banquet room. There are chair lifts to each floor.

Earth Day Labyrinth @ Trinity Church

Trinity Church invites you to celebrate Earth Day by centering yourself by walking the Labyrinth. This ancient tool helps us ground ourselves on the good earth which we are called to care for and steward. It helps us to deeper awareness and intention. So come, walk, find the Quiet Center on Earth Day. The Labyrinth will be located in Lincoln Hall (the parish hall) and will be accessible from the parking lot entrance of Trinity Church which is located between Lincoln and Coyle Streets. All are welcome and wanted.

Join Kaneel and Back Cove Books on April 30 for a guided mindful walk and poetry reading along the Back Cove trail. Led by Davinica Nemtzow of Kaneel, this slow, purposeful practice will invite you to deepen your relationship with new and familiar poems and the natural world that inspires them. After some guided breathing and gentle movement, we'll amble along the trail, awakening our senses to the living Earth in this present moment, and engaging in a full sensory literary experience.
