This week is really feeling like spring in Maine with warm, sunny days followed by snow! So many of our community members have been getting outside to enjoy the spring season. All the trails in the network are open right now. However, we ask that you please seek out trails that are within walking or biking distance from your home.
On Monday, the City of Portland closed all Back Cove parking lots to encourage people to recreate close to home. Other popular "destination" trails, especially Presumpscot River Preserve and the Jewell Falls area of Fore River Sanctuary are seeing a lot of visitors. This increase in use impacts the natural environment and, in some places, is making it difficult to maintain appropriate distance from one another. Instead of driving to a trail, explore one closer to home. Find the trail closest to you on our map. Additionally, if you arrive at a trail that seems busy, please keep our community safe and find another nearby trail to enjoy.
Lastly, we all know to keep 6 feet apart. But what are the best ways to practice physical distancing on a trail?
