ATC Committee Walks With Councilor-Elect Mark Dion
Not content to talk policy over Zoom, the Active Transportation Committee is hitting the streets again. Following up on their series of Sidewalk Surveys in 2019, where committee members led city and state officials along with community stakeholders on guided tours that focused attention on the needs of pedestrians, cyclists, and transit riders in Woodfords Corner, the committee has begun a series of walks with new City Council members to introduce them first-hand to the issues identified during the surveys.
On December 3rd, board members Jennifer Ceide, Kirk Jones, Eric Larsson, and Teresa Valliere, were joined by District 5 representative, Mark Dion on a walk led by Active Transportation Committee chair, Nancy Grant. Although his district includes just a corner of the corner, Counsellor Dion is well-acquainted with the area, which was part of his beat when he was a patrol officer with the Portland Police Department. His historical context was a great addition to a wide ranging discussion of topics ranging from crosswalks to workforce housing development, and everything in between. Next up are more walks with Mayor Kate Snyder, District 4 councilor Andrew Zarro, and at-large councilor April Fournier.
