June Street Squad Volunteers At It Again!

Volunteers gathered in June to tidy the tree wells along a stretch of Forest Avenue from Millenia Nails & Spa to Veranda Asian Market. The tree wells were weeded and layers of cardboard and mulch were applied to help suppress future weeds.

A small native pollinator garden or "Green Drop" was also planted in a treeless tree well, as an ecological place holder, until a new tree is installed. In addition to the native perennials Liatris (Blazing Star) and Rudbeckia (Black-Eyed Coneflower), red poppies were also planted in this "Green Drop" garden located near VFW POST 6859 to honor military service members.

This event was part of a new Street Squad initiative organized by the Green, Clean & Sustainable team. The Street Squad meets on the third Tuesday of the month to tackle small projects and beautify the neighborhood.

The Street Squad will be gathering again on July 21 from 5:30-7:00 PM to tidy the tree wells. If you would like to help out, sign-up here for the next Street Squad event.

Also, please visit the FWC calendar to view and sign-up for other volunteer opportunities in the neighborhood. We are actively seeking volunteers to help water the planters along Deering Avenue July-September. There are lots of ways to pitch in and help out!

If you would like to help out, visit the FWC calendar to sign-up for volunteer opportunities in the neighborhood.
