2023 Crosswalk Mural Painting: Thanks to our volunteers and Portland Bike Party!
Thank you again to all our volunteers and supporters of the Crosswalk Mural Refresh on May 19. As part of our efforts to make Woodfords Corner safe and walkable, FWC Active Transportation Committee replicated the design from last year on the first block of Deering Ave. Asphalt art signals drivers to slow down by creating a visual impression that this is a different kind of intersection. Designed by our 2021-2023 Muskie Graduate Assistant Meghan Kirschbaum, the design offers whimsy to a busy and block that has many businesses and pedestrians. At the end of our installation, more than a hundred cyclists from the Portland Bike Party stopped along the block and danced for 40 minutes! With attention to the traffic, pedestrians, and businesses along the block, this event demonstrates how we can enliven the corner, one block at a time. And thank you to Bird&Co for helping with the costs!
