Active Transportation Committee

FWC has a strong Active Transportation Committee dedicated to improving the experience and safety of those who walk, bike, and ride the metro throughout Woodfords Corner and beyond.

If you’re a community member interested in working with us to transition Woodfords Corner into a vibrant place to shop, explore and socialize with your neighbors, contact Nancy Grant, the Committee Chair, at

Coming on July 10 from 5:30–7 pm, join FWC for a Sidewalk Survey. The Sidewalk Survey is a walking audit of sidewalk conditions in certain sections of Woodfords Corner. We gather and summarize the information and then work with the city to repair and improve the walkability of our neighborhood. Sign up here.

Walking School Bus

Recently, the Active Transportation Committee began the Walking School Bus program here in Woodfords Corner. A Walking School Bus is a way for students to get to school by walking together in a supervised group. Student participants are chaperoned by a parent “Driver,” who leads the walk to school along a set route, picking up children along the way, much like a regular school bus. Here’s how this program helps the corner:

  • Walking to school enables children to incorporate regular physical activity before they arrive to school

  • When families decide to lace up their sneakers to get to school, they help reduce the amount of air pollutants emitted by automobiles

  • Children and parents develop a sense of community when walking with friends and neighbors along the way

We hope to operate the Walking School Bus for 5 days week in the upcoming 2019-2020 school year! The specific walking route will be determined by level of interest. ALL are welcome to walk! If you are interested in participating, please contact Vonnett Seeger at
